Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Stir together flour, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture; mix well.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll pieces by hand into long ropes 1/2" in diameter. Cut ropes into 3" lengths.
  5. Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheets and bake 12-15 minutes or until light brown on the bottom. Place cookies on racks to cool completely.
  6. Make frosting by creaming all ingredients until it reaches a spreadable consistency. Spread on cookies, marking with tines of a form to resemble bark. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
